Newly Available Products!
Evaluations
1: Now available for purchase as a digital product!
Year
1 Evaluations is a digital-only delivered product this year.
(This is because, since the future belongs to Redesigned, we need to finish the Evaluations disk along with the finalization of the content, and Unit 4 is way past the deadline for the start of the school year. Once again, we thank God for the Internet, which allows us to deliver a quality product to your home instantly, as the year progresses.)
We have put up the Evaluations 1 Interface page (linked below) and made
one whole week, plus the Introduction, sample pages so that you can better decide if this new and optional product is something you need to purchase this year.
Like Writing Aids, Evaluations 1 will be delivered only digitally this year, and we hope to make it into a combination print/digital product as soon as
Redesigned Year 1 is truly complete. (Right now, there are NO
plans to offer a discount on the hard copy when it emerges, for those of you who purchase a digital version... sorry!)
We
do offer a special license to co-op groups using three or more copies
of Year 1 (Classic or Redesigned) that amounts to a 20% discount
from the cost of each member of the group purchasing access
individually. You must purchase discounted group licenses from Lampstand
Press via telephone only.
This new product is exciting in a whole host of ways. Here are a few:
-
We have separate quizzes most weeks for all four levels of students in your home.
-
For each learning level, we have sought fresh and appropriate approaches to the real learning that each student does: visual, auditory, or tactile.
-
For your non-readers, we've provided oral quizzes (and ways to grade them), or spectrum charts, so that little hands won't be overtaxed by writing laborious answers.
-
Upper grammar students will also have the option of using some oral quizzes, but we've provided some T/F and Multiple Choice formats as well, and also quarterly tests.
-
Dialectic students have perhaps the most interesting-looking quizzes: we are not interested in them producing analytical prose, but in showing that they understand the connections between facts in each week's lesson. Therefore, their test interfaces are highly graphical in nature; they provide short answers that show they understand the connections between facts.
-
We are very pleased and proud of our rhetoric-level offerings. Weekly, there are ten short answer questions, followed by a choice of essay questions. Students who use our evaluations regularly will have weekly practice in taking essay tests, which is a fundamental and important skill for college. We provide you, the parent, with key factual points to look for in each essay answer AND a full-length sample answer of each essay question we assign. We are very hopeful that students who regularly have such models placed before them will, with the grounding our Writing Component gives them and this regular practice in taking essay-tests, develop true skill and aplomb in this important skill!
-
We have provided a lot of choice for you in how you administer these quizzes and tests: use them weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or quarterly. It's up to you!
-
As an added help, there are two full-length glossaries: one of vocabulary words, the other of people, defined and indexed by week-plan.
All in all, it's exciting to present for your consideration our new Evaluations 1!
Please enjoy the interface page and samples as you consider whether these aids will help you in presenting the very best homeschooling program you can!
Writing
Aids from Lampstand Press is now available to order, but currently,
only by phone!
Writing
Aids is an exciting new alternative to all other composition
handbooks.
Like
MapAids, it is a stand-alone, optional product that is
custom-designed to work withTapestry of Grace. One copy of
Writing Aids serves one family on all levels for all year-plans
(Classic and Redesigned).
Initially, it is only available in digital form as a series of
Beta-format .pdf
documents. Next year, we plan to collect these digital documents and
put them together in printed form. Your purchase today entitles you to
access to all Writing Aids documents, which that include
instructions for the teacher, talking points for the students, sample
work, and grading systems for all Tapestry Writing Assignments. You
can download and/or print these documents, which will be posted
progressively throughout the upcoming school year in time for all users to
access them as needed during a traditional school year (late August 2006
to May of 2007).
To access our Writing Aids documents, you first go
to the interface page,
and then select your document. (You must have purchased Writing
Aids and joined our online bulletin board before Casey
can give you permission to access all but our sample documents (samples
are in bold, RED hyperlinks). We are
having trouble with our online ordering interface charging shipping on a digital
product, so Writing Aids must be ordered by phone.

Lap Books kits for Grammar-level students
Lampstand
Press is excited to announce the arrival of a new collaborative effort
with the geniuses at Knowledge Box Central: pre-assembled lap book
kits! These new teaching and learning tools will add both fun and
depth to your Grammar-level student's studies.
By double-clicking on each picture
to the left, you can take a look at the detail and care that has gone
in to this tremendous resource and imagine how it will help your student
to learn, review, and remember the details of his or her Year 1
studies! Imagine the time and effort these kits will save you as you
click on the thumbnail images at the right and peruse this exciting new
offering. Choose preassembled or CD-Rom.
Both are available for all four units of Year 1, and the first three
units of Year 2 should be in the warehouse on the week of July 17. The CD-Rom is compatible with Windows or Mac, and contains all of the
contents for your lapbook. You'll need the file folders, and the
desire to cut, fold, paste and put together! (Please note that one
CD can be shared by family members only; please don't share with co-op
members or friends.)
History Portfolios for Dialectic-level students.
Created
by Barbara Shukin, this is a wonderful addition to studies of the Ancient
World at the Dialectic level. This resource is optional, but it is
especially beneficial for tactile learners, and indeed all children will
benefit from the reinforcement of recording your choices of journal
entries, maps, and fact lists into the blanks provided. Please note
that, unlike our lapbooks, these portfolios come with no specific
recommendations for use with Tapestry week-plans. Double-click
on the pictures below for views of typical page layouts.
Newly
Arrived!
In
Search of a Homeland
(Out
of print in the USA, but here by special order from the U.K.!)
We have a
special new arrival at The Bookshelf that many Classic Tapestry Year 1 users will be interested in.
In Search of a
Homeland by Penelope
Lively, which is entirely out of print in this country, has just arrived from England. So, if you are working through Unit 4 of Year 1, or planning on using Unit 4 of Redesigned, this book is highly recommended Literature reading for Dialectic level (Redesigned) and for UG/D in Classic.
