Graphic Organizers

Graphic organizers can be used for a variety of assessment purposes (not just for organizing thoughts before writing a paper, or for taking notes on lectures)!

What's a graphic organizer?  You find examples in most of the Write Source books we are using, and here's a GREAT site to bookmark for all your graphic organizing needs.  Graphic Organizers on Tap!

Some ways to use graphic organizers as ASSESSMENT tools:

  • In group settings, ask students to come up with a mind map based on their assigned readings. They can do this in small groups (in competition), individually, or as a collective effort.
  • On tests, provide a graphic organizer and have students fill them rather than answer multiple choice questions or fill-in-the-blank questions.

More to come...
