Same great curriculum, brand new possibilities

Tapestry of Grace DE is the plan you already love, but now with added benefits. Sure, we all love having our curriculum in our hands, where we can mark it up (or page-protect), and read it in bed. But printed binders also take up tons of space on our bookshelves, can be lost or damaged, and go out of date. Tapestry DE is virtually indestructible, and has a host of other great features. If you love your printed Tapestry, don't worry - it hasn't gone anywhere. But we think you're going to love what DE adds to your journey.

A few benefits of DE

  • Affordable: lower initial cost, with no downside to buying unit by unit through the year.
  • Printable: make as many copies of every page as your family needs, or have us do it for you.
  • Compact & portable: think about four slim CD cases vs four massive printed binders.
  • Minty-fresh: update your copy to the latest edition at any time.
  • Indestructible: can't be lost or damaged (until you print it :) but then you can always print again).
  • Simple: print only the parts of the curriculum you need and leave the rest for later.
  • Immediate: avoid shipping charges and delays by simply downloading your copy from our online store!
  • Approachable: you can't lose by trying a single unit - it's only $45 for one nine-week unit.
  • Geek-approved: home network licenses are available on request for those who wish to access the curriculum from multiple computers within your home.

How DE works

DE works by showing you your week-plans in a security program called LockLizard. You can pull up each week-plan on your home computer, scan, search, and print to your heart's content.

The periodic updates that we make to Tapestry of Grace are available as free downloads — meaning that not only is DE indestructible, but it never goes out of date!

Digital vs. print?

One of the best things about DE is that it's not "digital or print," it's "digital and print."

Tapestry DE is all about flexibility: you can read on-screen, print just the pages you want from week to week, or order the digital/print package to have entire year-plans pre-printed for you. You have total control and the freshest possible copy to work from as the years unfold.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

This area is here to supply the answers you need most. Currently, many of the answers are to technical questions about how to install or use the DE software. As we receive other common questions, we'll be happy to add them to this list. For questions about the structure of the Tapestry program, its educational philosophy, or how to teach your family using Tapestry, check out Exploring Tapestry.

If you have a question which doesn't seem to be answered here, please email Ray (ray@tapestryofgrace.com).

What are the system requirements?
PC: Windows XP, Vista or 7. If you are running Windows 2000, we suggest you download our sample to see if it will work on your computer.

Mac: OSX 10.4 or later.

Please note that LockLizard does not support any distribution of Linux.

Can I use a SmartPhone, iPhone, Kindle, etc. to view my Tapestry DE documents?
LockLizard's tech support department told us that the software required to do the protection would take up too much memory to run on devices other than computers. They currently have no plans to introduce a LockLizard Safeguard Viewer application for other devices.
I'm using a dial-up Internet connection. Do I have to be connected to the Internet when using Tapestry DE?
You need to be connected to the Internet the first time you open a document after each purchase to verify your license against the LockLizard database. After that, you do not need to be connected to the Internet.

(Mac) I get the message “Failed to check license. Unable to initialize license store.”
You need to be logged onto your computer as an administrator to be able to register the license file. Without the additional rights, the keystore file cannot be created. Log on as an administrator and try again. If that doesn’t work, remove the keystore. (See the directions below.)
Error 1284:68 cannot connect to server www.locklizard-license2.co.uk

According to LockLizard, that error message means there was something wrong with the download, so the license didn't work properly. Before registering again, you will need to delete your keystore. PC: Start menu > Programs > Lizard Safeguard PDF Viewer > Remove Keystore. Mac: from the Lizard Safeguard viewer menu select Remove Keystore. Once you have done this, double-click on the license file in the email to register.

How do I remove the keystore, and why would I want to? For that matter, what IS a "keystore"?
LockLizard uses the terms "keystore" and "license" interchangably. Sometimes, if there's a problem with license registration, the license registers with the LockLizard database but doesn't update your computer. PC: Start menu > Programs > Lizard Safeguard PDF Viewer > Remove Keystore. Mac: from the Lizard Safeguard viewer menu select Remove Keystore. Once you have done this, register your license again from the Lampstand Store.

I use a PC and I purchased a CD. Now what do I do with it?

You should be able to just put the CD in and it will walk you through the steps. Otherwise, open the CD using Windows Explorer and double click the AutoRun.exe file.

The installation program will put all the files in the proper place. We strongly recommend that you do not change any of the suggested installation locations. Once the installation program is finished, it will automatically open the year-plan to the main page. In the future, you can either click the desktop icon or go to Start > All Programs > Tapestry of Grace and select your year-plan.

I use a PC and I have downloaded the installation file. Now what do I do with it?

Your installation file is called either Install_Yx.exe or Yx_TOG.exe (where x is the number of the year-plan). Double click that icon and the installation program will put all the files in the proper place. We strongly recommend that you do not change any of the suggested installation locations. Once the installation program is finished, it will automatically open the year-plan to the main page. In the future, you can either click the desktop icon or go to Start > All Programs > Tapestry of Grace and select your year-plan.

I use a Mac and I purchased a CD. Now what do I do with it?

Open the .dmg file on the CD. This will open another folder. Click the .pkg file in that folder. It will walk you through the steps.

The files will be put in the appropriate place on your hard drive and a desktop icon (alias) will be created.

I use a Mac and I have downloaded the installation file. Now what do I do with it?

If your .dmg file that you downloaded doesn't automatically open, double click on it. This will open another folder. Click the .pkg file in that folder.

The files will be put in the appropriate place on your hard drive and a desktop icon (alias) will be created.

The footer graphic covers up some of the weeks on the unit interface page. How can I get to those weeks?

Internet Explorer blocks ActiveX controls by default. You likely received a popup warning at the top of your screen. Click the popup warning and select the option that allows you to see "Blocked Content."

Can I copy parts of Tapestry DE and paste them into another document?

We provide copy-and-pasteable Student Activity Pages on the Loom. Look for the "Workbook Content" section. Due to copyright issues, nothing else can be copied and pasted.

I get a blank page when I try to open .pdf files (like the Assignment Charts and the Workbook Content). How can I view .pdf files?

Mac Firefox users: Go to the Firefox PDF Plugin for Mac OSX page and click the "Add to Firefox (MacOSX) button. Once you've installed the add-on, you'll need to restart Firefox.

How do I get updates to my Tapestry DE?

Updates are available for download from the updates and downloads page. Marcia posted some important information about updates on the Forum.

How do I print more than one page at a time?
Click the printer icon at the top. In the Print dialog box, you’ll see the Print Range section. One of the options is “Pages”. Change the “1” to whichever page numbers you want to print. For example, to print just the Writing Assignments, change the “1” to “8-10”. Notice that you shouldn’t put a space before or after the hyphen.
How do I print more than one section at a time?
Either separate the page numbers with a semicolon (for example "1-3;6-7" to print the Threads and the Weekly Overview) or do “1-3” first and then “6-7”.
The bottom of the page gets cut off when I print. How can I make it print more?

Every model of printer is a little different as far as how wide the margins have to be. You may want to try to print that page and check (or uncheck) "Fit contents to page" and see if that makes it better.

Mac users: One of our customers recommended that you pick "Destination Paper Size" and scroll down to "US Letter" and follow that sub-menu to "Borderless 8.5x11in."

My printer has a built-in automatic duplexer. Can I use it to print on both sides of the paper?

Due to a limitation in the print software upon which LockLizard is based, automatic duplexing is not available at this time. You can, however, change your print settings to print only odd pages and then flip the stack over and print the even pages. Test on a small subset of pages (like pages 1-4) to make sure you will print them in order. Your printer may require you to check the "Reverse" button on one or the other print jobs, depending on the way the paper feeds into your printer.

My printer is a multi-function printer (printer, scanner, copier, fax, and toaster oven) and I get an error when I try to open LockLizard protected files. What can I do?

LockLizard Safeguard is looking for certain words and phrases in the name of the printer. Since Lampstand Press does not prohibit the use of multi-function printers, the way to get around this limitation is to change the name of your printer. Rename the computer by the manufacturer and the model number. For example, if you have a Black & Decker All-in-One TRO420, you may want to rename the printer Black & Decker 420.

PC: Start > Control Panel > Printers. Right-click on the printer icon and select Rename.

Mac: Apple Menu > System Preferences > Print & Fax. Select your printer and select Printer Setup. From the drop down menu in the Printer Info dialog box, select Name & Location.

Can I have a copy on my computer and also put a copy on my child's computer?
OR, I have a desktop computer and a laptop. Can I put Tapestry DE of both computers?

Updates & Downloads

Important Note: If you re-download a file it will overwrite your existing file. Read the warnings and note which files have been changed. The downloads are cumulative. All changes noted in the Update Log below apply to the download files to the left.

Tapestry DE is powered and protected by LockLizard Safeguard, which allows documents to be securely readable on both PCs and Macs.

Download the LockLizard Safeguard viewer by clicking on the PC or Mac button to the left, and follow the simple steps to install.

Download or update a purchased unit or a full year-plan:

For initial downloads, you must activate your LockLizard license to access the unit(s) you have purchased. It is not necessary to re-activate your LockLizard license if you are only updating.

Writing Level Overview

It has come to our attention that some copies of Tapestry DE have the wrong Writing Level Overview documents. Until we do the next update, the correct documents are here. (The Writing Level Overview for Year 4 is correct on the online Loom.) These documents work for PC or Mac:

Writing Level Overview for Year 1 | Year 2 | Year 3.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Know your buying options. We offer Tapestry in a variety of packages that suit the needs of individual families. At our store, you can buy individual units, complete year-plans, or Bonus Bundles, which combine Tapestry with its most helpful supplements.

Within the DE format, you will need to indicate delivery options (see right) such as Digital Download, CD Delivery, or Digital/Print Package.

When you buy Tapestry of Grace DE, you are not buying a copy of the curriculum. You are buying software which grants you the permanent right to use (and print) copies of the curriculum for your family's personal use. LockLizard is controlled by a computer-specific license that you purchase.

Thus, DE products are non-resalable and non-returnable, so it's important for you to read the EULA and play with our Samples before you buy. For no additional charge, network licenses are also available should you desire to have Tapestry DE running on several computers in your home.
