Talk me off the ledge.

I was ready to be Miss Prepared Homeschooler, and print out Poetics and print out Frameworks to have as a resource for my new R student to read as he needed.

And then I saw how long they were.

YIKES!

SO. What do YOU do?

My ds is NOT a "read off the computer" guy, and since he doesn't have a laptop, it wouldn't be feasible to pursue that.

Do I just bite the bullet and print? Or print one week at a time as needed?

Heather,
My ds doesn't like to read off the computer either, but the weekly assignments are generally not all that long that he can't tolerate it for a short period of time. Plus, if you print it out, you don't have that great search feature that enables you to find exactly what you are supposed to read! My suggestion would be to just have him read it off the screen; it shouldn't take that much time off the family computer (we don't have personal laptops for each person in our family either). I wouldn't go to the expense of printing.

Heather, I agree with Michelle. Our whole family much prefers books to reading on computers, but the readings are tolerable. And when you have to jump around to different authors and terms in the index, it's so easy to just search and read the few paragraphs then search for the next. I have printed out the occasional page if we were going somewhere and wanted to read it in the van or at the doctor's office, etc.

Heather,

Another reason to read online for now is that I think Christy is still tweaking these documents. I don't want to speak out of turn and it's hard to keep track of everything, but I believe Christy is planning to work on the Poetics and Frameworks document throughout the 2010-2011 year and try to get it in its final version. If one were to print it all out and keep a hard copy on the shelf, I think I'd wait until she says it's complete.

We read the document online, but I do print select pages when I lead a literature discussion in our co-op. I have not learned to teach while digitally flipping around between the Teacher Notes and Poetics on my computer. I'm sure it can be done, but I find that very confusing.

Blessings,
Eia

I love you ladies - thanks for the input!

(You'd think I'd have it down, 2nd time around Rhetoric - but things have changed a bit and this child is totally *different*!)
