In reviewing my Y4, I find that D's and R's are set to (as one option) memorize all the countries of the world and their capitals. When I look at the schedule in U4 Supplement 11, this looks like a LOT of memory work each week! http://tapestryofgrace.groupee.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif And, in looking at Map Aids, it looks like there are a lot of weeks where there isn't much map work at all (given the absence of a map for that week). Has anyone decided to spread this project out for the whole year?

Also, on the Teacher's Map for those cumulative maps, I only see numbers for each country. Are those numbers supposed to correspond to something? I didn't find a numbered list of countries anywhere. (I really didn't want to have to look all those countries up myself! http://tapestryofgrace.groupee.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )

Thanks,
Michelle

Just seeing this now - sorry! Now that you're 75% done with your year, let me suggest Sheppard Software (www.sheppardsoftware.com). There are a lot of options, including geography with different levels of difficulty, and my D and R kids have learned the bulk of the countries of the world with these games. Still working on Africa... Then there are board games like the "10 Days in ..." series, The Global Puzzle, or GeoPuzzles (sold by continent, I believe). Good luck; hope you have found a way to tackle at least some of the geography work!

We are in process in terms of doing this. I have a D level 14 year old and a UG 11 year old.

I don't think it is a lot each week for my boys. If you compare it to what scripture memory verses they might be asked to memorize, it just doesn't seem that bad.

As for aids, I think it has helped them to have to make their own flash cards.

The only thing I'd consider adding is a song version, but I didn't have one with capitals so I passed on that.
