I've looked around here and on the Yr 1 main page for ideas on what to use for this History:Core source. How vital is this text/source for answering the Accountability and Thinking questions? Do you have a favorite source for this level that you can share? thanks.

Make sure you look at the links TOG provides:
http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/year1/history.php

This is a place where I rely on my used book store or library. In the case of used books, I'd begin to look as much as a year in advance.

I had a copy of The Book of Indians (http://www.amazon.com/book-Indians-Holling-Clancy/dp/B0007F1R5K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1291382744&sr=8-1) by Holling C. Holling which I used parts of.

I also used another book I think I picked up at a scholastic warehouse sale called The First Americans (http://www.amazon.com/First-Americans-Anthony-Aveni/dp/0439551447/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1291382886&sr=1-1) by Anthony Aveni.

Neither book completely covered everything, but I was happy with what we did.

I should also add that there are a couple more weeks like this in Year 1 because the R level sets the topics and the topics aren't ones that are much written about for younger children. I let those weeks be a break week, but you could also use them to work on projects that need more work.
