Hi,
I am planning to use TOG yr 3 in the fall with 1 D, 1 UG, and 2 LG students (one reading, one not). I've previously used Ambleside Online, HOD, and a hodge podge of materials for history and literature. I am most accustomed to choosing a "spine" to read aloud to all (or most) of the children and assign them other books to read on their own. Through TOG's Teacher Training downloads I'm beginning to get a feel for TOG's philosophy and approach with learning levels and I really like what I'm learning. While I appreciate the weekly topics, I'm still struggling with the desire to find a spine to march through chapter by chapter with everyone. Has anyone done this successfully in place of or in addition to TOG's Core history reading? (I realize my D student will need the scheduled readings to do the AQ and TQ.)

I'm not sure I'm explaining my thoughts very well, but glad for any shared experiences/thoughts.

Thanks!

I use Story of the World to supplement my weekplans (I have 2 UG students, next year, we'll have 1 LG, 1 UG, and 1 D). I also use Mystery of History audiobooks, but I'm hoping to be able to buy the textbooks next year. We don't use the activities with either, we use the TOG activities. Anything more would be overkill, I think. I could be wrong, I haven't bought next year's yet, but I think Streams of Civilization is what is listed as the alternates for D level.
