My daughter will be participating for the 1st time in the Rhetoric Year 1 LLC. Is there any summer reading that she should be doing to get ready for the fall? Thanks.

Hi there,
The only summer reading before Year 1 is for Rhetoric Lit students and that is to read The Poetry Handbook.

Hey, Kelly!

My name is Teri Skidmore, and I'll be teaching the Year 1 Rhetoric Literature class this year at LLC.

I just wanted to confirm what Dana said--Mary Oliver's A Poetry Handbook is the only summer reading for students.

It's nice to see a fellow Michigander family in class. We live an hour and a half north of you just outside Saginaw!

Thanks for the responses. I will get her going on it.

Teri, where in Saginaw are you. My whole family is originally from Saginaw. Both sets of grandparents lived near Shattuck and Hemmeter. I spent lots of time there as a child. Great memories!!

Wow, Kelly! We live on the west side of Saginaw in Shields . . . on North Thomas Road, just off Gratiot, not too far past the Meijer on that side of town.

What a small world!

Yikes! Good thing I saw this! The whole book?

Thanks a bunch -

Sorry to startle you, Di! http://tapestryofgrace.groupee.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No need to worry. It really is an easy read, and not terribly long. Many kids in my class last year just read it the week before class started.

I sent an email yesterday to students (and carboned the parents) to alert them to the summer reading assignment. If you didn't get it, please let me know. I will want to be sure I have you on my distribution list.

So thrilled to have Ethan in my class this year. He is a delight!
