Thank you, Dana. These are great examples of the finished product and will be very helpful. Right now, though, I am struggling to show her how to do the outlining. I think because it's such a huge paper she is having trouble getting her thoughts organized. Any ideas?

Hi Cyndi,
After my first child went through the assignment, I learned to approach it a bit differently. We ended up taking the approach that the student is going to choose authors/works to write several small papers about. Then, we will assemble these small papers into one very large paper. Just getting past the mental perception of such a huge paper did wonders.

So, then, we approached the outlining as if it was for one small paper. Outline the author's life. Outline the analysis of his first work. Outline the analysis of his second work, etc.
