View Full Version : Divisions of Churches Chart
The chart on for Week 1 lists out the divisions in the church today. Does anyone know where Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses would fit into these divisions if at all???

That chart is not meant to be exhaustive: there are many who would tinker with it, deleting Anglicans from the list of Protestants (since many of their doctrines and practices are more Roman Catholic than Protestant), adding some sects from the Far East, and then adding the "Restorationists" which would include JWs and Mormans, as well as Adventists. The reason that these sects call themselves "restorationists" is that they claim to be returning to the pure Christian religion; critics believe that those are not Protestant churches. For those who use the Bible as the only measure of faith and practice for Christianity, JWs and Mormons are not generally considered orthodox Christians. JWs deny the divinity of Christ and say that He did not die on a cross, but on a "torture stake," and that the Holy Spirit is not a person but is God's active force. Mormons have extra-biblical doctrines see here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_in_The_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-day_Saints#Summary_of_distinct_views) and "scriptures" (Book of Mormon)
