I agree with the assessments so far. Scouting (cub/boy/girl/brownie) is a great way to cover social studies from a community aspect.

Holman is excellent but I would recommend something else for LG if your son will be reading himself. If you read with him, then Holman will be great. It's got a ton of great info!
