Dear Christy,

Wow! This coming-of-age novel was perfectly timed for our reading. So much rich discussion has followed. Thank you so much for being part of the blessings that have come from our Rhetoric Literature readings and discussions.

On page 251, Reuven goes to "the school library" and looks for Rev Gershenson's name in the catalogues. His name isn't listed anywhere. It was then that Reuven understood why his father was not teaching in that school.

We don't get it: Which school's directory did he check? What is the significance of Rev Gershenson's name not being in the catalogue? Why did Mr. Malter not teach at that school? Why do they avoid Gershenson's name in a later conversation?

We really enjoyed this book and would like to understand it even better. Any insights would be appreciated.

Beth Ann
