Thread: updates/corrections to Year 1 Redesigned since 2006?

  1. #1
    Dear Dana,

We're starting our fifth year of Tapestry Redesigned this fall! Thus, I am circling back and opening the TOG Teacher's Manuals from 2006 First Printing. I have used the DE plus print version since TOG started with DE. However, I can't spend $170.00 to add the DE to the print version I already own. So, I am wondering what the best method is to find the corrections made since the Year 1 LOOM CD was mailed to me a few years ago. I went to the LOOM on-line web page and noted a few items under "Corrections" on that web page - is that all that has been updated or corrected since 2006-7?

Also, I have Evaluations for Year 1 print-outs that I saved in my binder. Yet, I don't see an Evaluations disc with my Year 1 LOOM disc and Year 1 MapAids disc. Did TOG produce a disc of Evaluations that year? OR did I probably just pay for access and then print them from the web site each week?

I know it wasn't all that long ago, but I can't remember just how we did things before DE.

    Sincerely,

    Beth Ann

    Hi Beth Ann,
Be sure you go to the Book Updates on the Loom to see which books have gone out of print, just in case you end up needing something. Other than the corrections page you've mentioned, there should be no other places to look that I can think of.

You probably paid for access to Evaluations, but a disc should have been mailed to you after it was complete. Please call customer service and ask them about this.

    Hope this helps!

    Blessings,
    Dana C. in TN

    Hi Beth Ann,

We started TOG the same your you did. I know what you mean about forgetting how it worked back then A lot has changed over the past few years! I just wanted to point out that it does not cost $170 to upgrade to DE. The $170 price is to purchase DE new. If you own the print and want to add DE, that is very inexpensive (less than $50 I think). However, adding DE to your print version does impact your license agreement just like buying DE plus print. You would not be able to resell, donate or loan your year plan to someone else if pay the low cost for an upgrade. It's a great option for someone who loves the DE.

    Dear Eia,

Thank you so much for your note. I had a vague recollection that there was an upgrade option. I had searched the Lampstand Press Store on-line, but missed it. Since I read your note I looked a little harder and found it. I'll put a link below for others - it's on the Lampstand Press Store "Help Center" page.

That's wonderful to know because the DE has been great for us and upgrading saves a lot of money over purchasing completely new.

One more question: The first page of the DE Upgrade Form says that I would need to send in my old LOOM disc. If I do that, won't I lose my version of the items that match the books I purchased 4 years ago? For example, I have the Dialectic Literature books from 2006-2007. I would need to have the old version of Literature Student Activity Pages that correspond to that old book, right?

I greatly appreciate the help and support from these forum posts. Thank you Dana and Eia and others,

    Beth Ann

    Beth Ann,

I will answer what I think is correct, but you may want to call customer service to verify, before you decide what will serve your family best. You are correct that the workbook pages in DE might not match the books listed in your printed year plan. However, there are several options for you to keep everything working smoothly. You can photo copy your printed pages for the few books that do go OOP. Another option is to copy the workbooks (SAPS) from your Loom CD onto your hard drive so that you have them if something changes. You should verify that this is allowed, but I think it is permitted. From what I understand, the purpose of mailing in the Loom CD, when upgrading to DE plus print, is to prevent users from selling the printed year plan as a stand alone item. In addition, Lampstand Press is working on providing customers with a webpage that allows us to print the SAPs for "discontinued" or OOP books. This area is still under construction, but they are committed to providing a great solution to this common problem for all DE users. I've lost track of the details on that, but I'm sure they'll notify us when it's ready.

As I prepared for Y1 this year, I printed off a current booklist for Y1 for the levels I need and compared that to my booklist from 4 years ago. Then I went to the online Loom to see if the books that I owned that were not on the new list had indeed gone OOP. Since they show the cover of the book, it's so easy to check things out and clear up any confusion about titles. Fortunately, most of the OOP books were for history and not literature, so the SAPs were not an issue for me at all. Having DE plus print gives you a lot of options and the most flexibility of all.

I hope I answered your questions and didn't make it more confusing for you. I debated about the upgrade, but finally decided to buy the full DE version and sell my Year Plan for Y1. I really prefer the DE and kept looking at my shelf full of lovely TOG volumes and knew I would not use them if I had the DE. Plus, I need more bookshelves So, when I get time to package it all up, I'll be posting my Y1 for sale. Isn't it great to have to many choices? I never thought I'd prefer DE over print. I think last year tipped the scales for me when DE was the only option.

Blessings to you as you continue your journey through TOG!
    Eia
