Thread: Discrepancy in books from loom list and power search

  1. #1
I'm trying to get my list together of books I will be ordering and I compared the old list I downloaded from the loom before it was taken down and the results I got from the Power search feature in the Bookshelf and I noticed two books missing for Lower grammar for literature. These two books did not show up on the Bookshelf. Have they been discontinued/removed or will my child have assignments to answer about these books but they're not on the resource list? The two books are:
    The Queen's Progress by Manis
    Encounter by Yolen.

Also, for D level, there is a book assigned in the power search called Along Came Galileo but it's not on the Loom list, hence I don't know which week it was assigned without pulling out my TOG and searching for it in the RAC's.

    Please advise.

    Thanks,
    Veronica

    Hi Veronica,
You have hit upon one reason that we have changed our methods for keeping up with primary resource lists. There are so many books that go in and out of print for a given year-plan that it was really difficult to keep these resource lists up to date, especially when people have their disk in hand. So, the primary "book list" is available on the Bookshelf, and not on a disk anymore.

Our solution has been the Book Updates Chart that is available on your Loom disk (current up to the date of your order) and the same charts on the online Loom that stay current. When a book goes out of print or is changed in the curriculum, you can get your needed information from these two places.

So, that explains The Queen's Progress and Encounter (although Encounter is a brand new change that isn't on the Book Updates Chart yet, but will be today or tomorrow).

Now...Along Came Galileo. When we produced Year 2, we released the entire resource list at once. The problem was that, as we wrote the year-plan, we discovered that we needed another book here and there, had too many books here or there, or even found a better title here and there. The Galileo book is a case of needing another one. And, this is the reason that we are releasing the Year 3 "book list" incrementally instead of all at once. Even though people can't plan all through the summer, in the end, they will have a better product and will have saved money.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask questions if you need more clarity.

Thanks Dana. So if I understand correctly, I should see when I need Along Came Galileo as I work and plan my way through the weeks because it will be listed in the RAC, correct?

Also, what book replaced The Queen's Progress? I'm not seeing it in the Book Updates page on the Loom.

    Best,
    Veronica

    Hi,
Yes, you will see Along Came Galileo in your RACs. And, The Queen's Progress went OOP before we even went to print with the first unit...I should have caught that in my previous post. At any rate, the title that is used in week 19 for LG lit is The Midsummer Night's Dream.

    Blessings,
