Thread: Virtual or real

Hi, I am in SC and this is my 2nd year using TOG. We attend a real co-op that encourages and supports TOG activities and discussions. I am thinking that it would be good to receive your email discussions about a virtual co-op. My oldest (R ds 16) is not going to be able to participate in the real TOG classes because the Chemistry and Government classes conflict. Anyway, please include me in your emails so I may consider my other options. Thanks for all your encouragement and enthusiastic efforts

Oh, I am using classic. Would that cause too much confusion?

I forwarded you our recent emails. I think we are all using Redesigned but now is a good time to correct me if I am mistaken.

Okay Ladies, I personally need to know if we are committing to a Y2U1 virtual co-op or not. I am rearranging our school calendar based on the pretense that this will be a go ahead. We would be postponing our start date by 6 weeks. I have really not heard from anyone else, other than Marcie, who is willing to commit at this point. I am not asking for details at this point simply a commitment from those who are planning to participate.

    Andrea,

I have been trying to see about having on online discussion among the interested moms so that we could all talk at once (not literally, hopefully!) rather than trying to feel everyone out through email or forum discussions. BUT, I can't seem to get the Yahoo voice messaging info that I need so that I can post something here about a date/time that would be agreeable to most. I've about decided I'll have to give in to doing it on my PC (I have a new Mac) so that we can move forward. Do you already know how to use Yahoo voice messaging? Would you know enough to be able to direct others as to what they would need to download to be able to use it?

As for a yes or no from us, we're a yes. But it might help others know whether they are a yes or no if we could talk out some of the ideas together.

If anyone else reading this has pertinent info on using Yahoo voice messaging, would you please enlighten us? Thanks!

I was wondering, can you use Yahoo Instant messenger conferencing with a combination of Macs and PC's?

    Have you tried this?

TIA for letting me know anything about this,
    Vanessa

I'm not sure what information you are looking for about Yahoo Messenger, but I posted this under yr 4 (that might help you).

What is needed for Yahoo conferencing...
Thought many might need this information, so posting here. Browse around the Yahoo site for more information or Goggle what it is that you are trying to find out... "Yahoo IM computer requirements", "Adding contacts to Yahoo IM list", "Yahoo conferencing" or whatever you are trying to find out.

    --------------------------------------------
Here is the web site to download IM with Voice. Just click the big button and follow directions. If you don't like it after downloading it, you can always delete it from your control Panel section (just like any other program you have).

here is the page about yahoo conferences..

    New to Instant Messenging
    http://messenger.yahoo.com/newtoim.php

    Computer Requirements:
    * Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, or Windows XP operating system
    * Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 or later
    * Pentium II 233 Mhz or better (500MHz recommended)
    * Minimum 64 MB RAM for Windows 98 and ME & 128 M B RAM for Windows 2000 and XP
    * Minimum 30 Mb disk space needed to install
    * A microphone, ((*sound card--***ask wherever you purchased your computer from - if you are Internet conference ready)), and speakers and a headset

Download Yahoo Messenger, and then you'll see if it works on your computer. After downloading you'll be able to chat with other co-opers (or at least IM each other if you don't have your headsets yet) and you can see how it works and discuss co-oping easier this way - rather than email back and forth where the days fly by. Once everyone has downloaded, a good idea is to set a day and time each week to set up your co-op. Make it a routine until you are all set up.

Very helpful info, Vanessa! This was exactly what we were looking for - someone who had done the leg work already!

I actually was able to download a brand new Beta version for my Mac yesterday and it seems to be working fine, though right now I don't have a single "friend" in my list!

I'm not sure about the combo of Macs and PC's. I'm really hoping that it won't be an issue.

I'm going to copy your post to our email group so that everyone will have the links they need. Thanks again for taking the time to help us out.

count me in for a yahoo IM session. My ID is cindyireland4

I think you have to invite people or add them to your IM list to chat.

I am interested in this. What is your planned start date, and what days are you planning to have discussions? Thanks.
