We just started Yr 4 unit 1. We have finished the first week in only 4 days but it seems like we didn't do much. I have both LG & UG and we read all the books for both groups as read aloud, except the Wizard of Oz which my DS has to read on his own. My kids were not interested in the president cards, but I made them complete one. They didn't want to do the invention project, or much of anything else. They did love the salt maps. I just feel like we didn't cover much. How do I know if they are learning anything at this level?

With younger children, I'd look at narrations that they can give you of what they are reading.
BUT somewhere in the Tapestry materials, Marcia says that for grade school children, especially I think, younger ones that Tapestry is gravy. The meat is reading, writing, math.
