You'll save the cost of the unit (around $40 for just the curriculum; more if you're ordering print) and lose about a $10 difference from if you'd ordered the entire year-plan at one time.
The intangible difference to consider is that you won't be able to reference backwards. Unit 1 covers Medieval times, and is groundwork to the Reformation era. This is NOT critical to using Unit 2; we've designed all units of TOG to be self contained. However, in history, all eras build on the previous ones, and Medieval roots are more-than-usually related to the Reformation events, and then to the founding of America. If you plan to come around again with TOG, you might just want to have this unit now for reference, and then use it fully on your next rotation.
