Thread: Read Alouds

  1. #1
    Hello
I am considering purchasing TOG. We have previously used SL. I was wondering how many read-alouds there are at the different levels. I printed out a list of required books and only one is listed as a read-aloud across LG, UG and D. Do users just choose which to read aloud. I imagine most are read aloud at LG and some at UG. Are family has always enjoyed reading aloud. I was just wondering how it fits into TOG.

    Thanks

I don't think there are any read alouds in Year One, but after that there is usually one for each week (however you do not read a whole book a week, some books take more than a week).

Since definitions of read alouds vary, some of Tapestry read alouds are nonfiction books about some aspect of the historical time period versus a fictional book (maybe even the majority).

I think even dialectics students might join you for read alouds, but in our case my oldest worked fairly independently so I did not include him during the dialectic years.

    Hello,

There is one read aloud for year 1 (God King -- my kids throoughly enjoyed it!).

It is a blessing that Tapestry is so flexible that we all adapt it to each of our families. In our family, my D daughter would mutiny if I left her out of the group read aloud! (She does her own history, lit, church history, etc. reading.) We're currently finishing Pollyanna and it is the highlight of our day.

One last tip -- when there is not a fiction read aloud scheduled, I often look at the literature alternate suggestions in the week plans. We've gleaned many ideas which turned into family favorites. (We do the non-fiction read alouds, too, as part of our history time. But we all appreciate the down time that comes with a well-told story.)

    Enjoy,
    Monica

A large part of year one includes the study of history as laid out in the bible, so we used the appropriate section of scripture for the week as a read aloud.

    Hi ladies,
There are actually two read-alouds in Year 1: God King and Peril and Peace. Years 2-4 have many read-alouds though.

    Blessings,
