Thread: Any input would be appreciated

I am a homeschooling mom of 2 dds. We are in our 7th year of homeschooling. I am considering using TOG this fall.

We used Sonlight for several years but I wanted more hands on so we used Winterpromise this year. I feel that TOG could bring the depth of Sonlight with the hands-on of Winterpromise...the best of both worlds...if you will.

I would like to know the pros and cons of TOG. I have been looking at samples online and reading about TOG on the site, trying to learn all I can. I looked at the Conference schedule and there are not any scheduled in my state.

Any information from those of you experienced with TOG would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thank you

    Hi,
The biggest pro for me is that my children were well-equipped to go out into the word and articulate their beliefs in a gracious way. Even though history and literature are the primary subject matter, in truth, it's all about teaching our children to stand firm in the gates against enemies of the faith.

Another pro is the way it freed me, the teacher, up to do housework, cook meals, etc. One goal with it is to actually just teach lessons (via Socratic discussions) once a week and not every day. Over time I learned how to do this with every subject.

Cons: I think the biggest con is that you have access to 12 grade levels of material. If you did that with Saxon math, it could be quite overwhelming! So, with this in mind, just focus on the learning levels and subjects YOU need to teach and ignore all the rest until you get to another learning level.

    Hope this helps some!

    Blessings,

like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.
I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!"
