This year I asked my high school kids to come up with an idea for our end of the year event and they came up with a great one!
We had an award ceremony based on the Academy award idea. Each co-op member had to pick a person that we had studied this past year and come in that character. They were encouraged to dress up and they were required to have a short(ish)speech explaining who they were and what they did. The 'presenters' had awards printed up for each character, such as "The Big Stick Award' for Teddy Roosevelt. We invited families and friends and had our presentation and period appropriate snacks in a local park shelter. We all enjoyed the afternoon and we have a few people who want to join our co-op after getting a taste for what we do.
