    Hi there,
If your student is a 9th grader, then he would need to do Level 9 Writing. (That said, if someone is entering TOG for the first time, often he needs to go down a level or two to ramp up his writing skills. If this is the case, he would want to ramp up into Level 9 over the course of the school year, thus entering Level 10 on target in 10th grade.)

9th grade *can* be dialectic or rhetoric, depending on the student. This is the case in history or literature. When doing dialectic for a high school credit, you will want to make sure that other aspects ARE assigned. For instance, in history, you will want to assign geography and time lines too. For English I, you will want to assign literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.

Year 4 is not necessarily more difficult in terms of reading ability, but is more difficult in terms of content. So, your decision on whether to put him in dialectic or rhetoric level will largely be determined by his maturity.

Hope this helps some. We are working on some documents that explain the credits better, so hopefully we'll be able to give you access to those soon.

Thanks for praying for our move. We are grateful!

    Blessings,

Hi Dana, Thank you for your help and information. I am understanding this much more. A couple more questions. When you say vocabulary for the English I credit, would that be the SAT vocabulary Prep or something in Tapestry of Grace? If it is SAT vocabulary Prep what do you recommend?

I've been looking at your document on the Loom "Mapping High School" and creating my chart. We are doing Year 4 this year (his 9th grade year) then starting over again at Year 1. He will receive his US History credit this year, Where would TOG Year 1 fit for a History credit. What year would best fit his World History credit? In your example you used year 3. Would any TOG Year qualify for a World History?

    Hi there,
There are two thoughts for you:

*You could count Year 1 as an elective and call it "Ancient World History" or "Ancient Civilizations."
*You could count Year 1 as a World History credit, but then when you do Year 2, you can't call it the same thing. One or the other would need to be World History.

Hope this gives you a bit more clarity.

    Blessings,
    Dana
