    Hello All!

This is my first year with a student in Dialectic. For those of you who have walked before me, what day of the week is the most fruitful for engaging in the history discussion/lecture? At this point, I find myself hemming and hawing. I would love any advice or bits of wisdom that you can share.

    Blessings!!

We do it on the last day of our week which is Friday. I also give him his assignments for the next week at the end of the discussion.

I give him a schedule to fill out each week and at first I helped him spread his assignments out over the week, but now he can do that all on his own.

Thank you Pat. Do you also do your Church History and Worldview discussion during this time? I like the idea of doing this all on Friday as it does seem to help to wrap up the week. I hadn't thought about giving a new assignment sheet on Friday. At this point, I have always done that on Monday which is great with LG and UG but Friday may prove to be quite effective for a D student. I have quickly realized that I need to step it up a couple of notches now that my oldest is in Dialectic. Thanks again, for your input.

    Blessings, Breta

Breta, I do. Sometimes non TOG subjects (especially science) will also make an appearance.

My oldest is pretty good at working on his own so this works well for him. The next one might be different, we'll see.

We do D history and church history discussions on Thursday afternoon and lit discussion on Friday. With history discussions on Thurs, the kids do their history journals and D dd takes the history quiz on Friday. She gets her list of assignments on Friday, too, so she can schedule the next week and use the weekend if she needs to get ahead on reading.

Having said this ... I have to admit that this is our 5th year with TOG (3rd year with a D student) and every year our schedule is different. One year we did all discussions on Fridays. Often they were shortchanged or skipped because we got caught up in wrapping the week up and Friday afternoon gymnastics and library trips, etc. Last year we had discussions with our virtual co-op on Wednesdays. The virtual co-op was a great experience! But our family didn't like starting/stopping TOG weeks in the middle of calendar weeks. (That works very, very well for lots of other TOG families we know, however.) We just can't get it together enough to start our TOG week on Monday and be ready for a Wed discussion either.

    Just my 2c!
