Thread: Timeline years, week 20, Obadiah & Joel

  1. #1
    Hi,

Either Joel and Obadiah are listed in the wrong order on the timeline information (but with the correct dates), or their dates are reversed, and I don't know which one. I'd love to find out which one it is! Thanks.

More timeline issues: In week 21, Tiglath-Pileser I is listed in the people list, but T-P III is listed in the timeline (or vice versa). I didn't know if that was deliberate. A number of other people are listed with the people but their dates are given in week 22, which surprised me (although maybe it was deliberate).

In week 24, on page 19 of the student activity pages (where timeline information is listed for this week), it says almost no Greek cultural expression occurs from c 100-900, which I believe should be c 1000-900.

I'll edit this as I find more. Clearly, fewer people pay attention to the timelines than to other things, because otherwise these errors would have been caught by now.

    Hi Beth,
Thanks for pointing these out. I'm currently working through Year 1 looking for little issues like this that need correction, so I'll definitely take note of this! If you or others reading this thread find such difficulties, please use the "suggestions" button at the top of the forum to just email me directly. That way, I'll be sure not to miss it. THANKS!

    Hi Beth,
I'm working through these now and have found that sources differ greatly as to the Joel and Obadiah dates. Nevertheless, I've got a question out to Marcia to double check in the resource she used for this.

I'm also checking on Tiglath-Pileser I/III. I do remember that as we were writing this year plan that specific dates/people were often conflicting and we listed only what we felt very confident about.

The Greek cultural expression time line date should be 1100-900 B.C.

I'll post again after I figure out the other two for sure.

    Hi again,
After doing some more study, we've determined that even scholars don't know the exact dates, but according to one of the resources that we used, the Obadiah and Joel dates are correct. If you are seeing some helpful information somewhere else, please let us know!

So, Dana, just to clarify: the dates are correct for Joel and Obadiah, but they are in the wrong order on page 6 in the time line date section. So Obadiah should come first at 841-825 B.C. and then should come Joel at 825-809 B.C. Am I correct?

    HI Janet,
Yes, you are correct. The dates are correct, but they are switched in the chronological order on the Weekly Overview itself.
