Ideally a child should be on Year 1 for 5th grade so for the high school years will be on years 1-4 in order.
I want to start TOG with my second grader. If I start with Year 1 that puts him out of order for HS.
Should I skip a year for the first rotation? If so which year?
Should I try to combine units and catch him up so by the time he is in 5th grade he will be in Year 1 (again) in otherwords Speed up
Or let him be out of order for high school. either way one year gets done one less time than the other years.
I realize a child might not be doing TOG for all of high school, may graduate early etc. but the year 1 grade 5 thing is really bugging me.
How do I handle this? He has had K and 1st in private christian school. He knows about Moses, and can tell about Pharoah (I asked him and he knows it's a ruler and was telling me a bit about it) but he hasn't gone in depth on Ancient history LOL. He also can tell you stories about Moses. So I know he got some of that as well.
What year should I start with. What year should I SKIP?
thanks for any help, Loretta

I don't think its "ideal" to go in order in high school. Even though the years may look "out of order" if your child has been using Tapestry from second grade he'll study the history in order. He'll just go from eight grade studying year 3 say and then study year 4. The level will go up a little.
Take my youngest when he is ninth grade, he'll be in Year Four. As it happens, I like that. Although there will be some tough themes in the year's history, the literature is less dense to read and Tapestry has included several lighter works. Contrast that with my oldest who will do Year Four in his last year of high school. I'm considering subbing out both the Heinlein and the Asimov with more mature books (ones I assume that Tapestry did not include because of themes included in them). Why? Because he will be older and can handle it. I might do similar things by replacing some of the non genre novels with more dense ones from the same writers.
The only place where I think care should be exercised is having a new Rhetoric student do Year Two in ninth grade without modification. That's a tough year and it should be either saved or the literature should be scaled back.
