We had a blast early this spring, planning and executing our own USO show. This was a small crowd, just my family (husband, myself, daughter-10, son-6 and my parents). Nevertheless, we packed a lot in.

Sloppy Joes on Buns
Jell-O Salad
Carrot Sticks
Tossed Salad
(from the Victory Garden, of course)

Roles (in costume and in character):
Dad-local businessman
daughter-movie star selling war bonds
son-soldier home on leave

Our USO club lounge featured such authentic props as a hand-painted USO sign, playing cards, hard candy, chewing gum, letter-writing materials, board games, and magazines.

  • National Anthem
  • God Bless America
  • Navy Hymn
  • Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy of Company 'B'
  • It's a Hard-Knock Life
  • Buy U.S. War Bonds!!
  • A word from our sponsors: Woman's Day magazine and Clark's Gum
  • Don't Fence Me In
  • Oh, Shenandoah
  • Who's on First
  • Happy Trails

It was a great success. We only wish we could have had a wider audience.
