Thread: Overall view of this year's geography?

  1. #1
    Greetings,

I just received my DE for year 3, for next year. So excited! (I've only done paper version before.)

We've been remiss about doing geography assignments in the past. I want to put forth a strong effort this year, and work on memorizing country names for the world map. I'm wondering if every continent is covered in that detail this year.

OR - I could work just on U.S. geography this year, and save the world geography till year 4. Can anyone tell me which would be a better approach.

I feel a little lost in terms of how the geography all comes together. I'm tempted to purchase a separate geography course that would specifically teach us everything we need to know about U.S. or World, but that seems redundant. I just can't get a handle on this - can anyone offer some suggestions.

Also, with the DE, is there anyway to see all of the geography assignments in one place, without going to each week set of lessons?

Thanks so much for any help!

    Dear Vanessa,

In case this will help you with your planning, in Year 4, Unit 4 there is a "memorize the countries and capitals of the world" project for Dialectic and Rhetoric students and a "memorize the states and capitals of the U.S." project for Grammar level students.

I worked on memorizing states and capitals with my children during Year 3 as the various states were admitted to the union. We reviewed them in Year 4, Unit 3, and we're going to memorize the countries and capitals of the world in Year 4, Unit 4.

The geography lessons may be previewed in each unit introduction, but there is not one place that I know of where you can view all the geography lessons. You can view all the maps in one spot by clicking on Map Aids in a week plan and then clicking on the link that says "All maps for Unit __" under the Map Aids picture.

    HTH!
