Thread: U2 Upper Grammar Test

  1. #1
I have a question about two of the T/F answers in the Upper Grammar Unit 2 test.

Question #4 states that it is "True" that "In the Trail of Tears, the Cherokee were forced to walk 800 miles and many got sick from a lack of food or disease and sadly died." My boys disputed that one because of a source they had that mentioned 1200 miles.

Question #15 states that it is "True" that "When news spread that gold had been found in California, many families traveled there in search of gold during the famous California Gold Rush." For this one they reminded me that actually it was mostly men that traveled to California, very few families came. I agree with them on that one.

I'm not sure if you care to change these, but thought I would mention it for your information.

Thanks for all you do, and SOOOOO happy that Year 4 Unit 3 is done! One more to go!!

    Hi, Candace,

Thank you for bringing up these questions! You have sharp boys :-)

I am asking one of our staff to check the resources about the 800 miles v. 1200 miles. It could be that different resources report different numbers, but of course you want to grade your students on what the resource they read says.

Your suggestion for rewording the Gold Rush question is helpful; "men" is more accurate than "families."

Thank you again for your input!

    Hi,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get this checked on. However, the resource states that the Cherokee were forced to walk over 800 miles (1300 km) and many got sick, etc. I'm guessing that your student got the miles and km mixed up.

    Blessings,
