Week 20 Early New World Colonies and Eastern Europe Looking Out the Gate to the New World Welcome to the New World, as you've never studied it before. As you review each week-plan in this three-week mini unit, you'll learn more both about Tapestry, and about the first European colonies in America - especially Jamestown. This first week focuses primarily on founding that first colony. As your review this week-plan, though, you'll notice that, as students get older and older, some of their lesson includes events going on in Europe at the time Jamestown was started.  This dual focus continues throughout the unit, and is a unique feature ofTapestry of Grace.  Students aren't just learning about America in isolation, but about history as it really was: integrated into a greater whole, and part of God's overall plan for mankind.

Threads allow you to understand your teaching objectives for the week. Presented in bite-size paragraphs, a quick peek will give you the direction you need for each student in your home.

Reading Assignments are the backbone of Tapestry, directing your student to his weekly booklist. Divided by learning levels and separated into categories, Reading Assignment Charts make customizing your student's weekly and daily reading assignments easy and enjoyable.

Overview is a two-page summary of the week's work (except the reading). This should be the first place your student opens up to find out what's planned for projects, maps, time line work, or famous people he'll be getting to know.

Writing tells your student exactly what he'll be putting on paper this week. Tapestry of Grace is designed so that the students write in the latter half of the week, but it sure helps to know what the topics are, so they can start thinking.

Student Activity pages are "home base" for your students. Following the color-coding to their learning level, these pages contain craft ideas, geography assignments, comprehension and analysis questions, and much more.

Pageant of Philosophy is Tapestry's exciting way of preparing your students for the many worldviews they'll encounter as adults - by touring the philosophers of the past in a creative play format!

Teacher's Notes were written by moms for moms. We understand that you don't have time to read all that your students do. This is our summary of what your students are reading, as well as a peek ahead into next week. We basically just want to make your life as easily informed as possible.

Note: Some sections might suggest visiting the Loom. This is an electronic component that, for Year 2, is still under development and being delivered online. Click here to access it now!

Each week, the Pop Quiz audio CD provides a brief summary of your students' weekly topic, and provides age-appropriate questions so that Dad can be a part of your family's educational conversation! It's not just for dads, though. Pop Quiz is also a great tool for moms on the go!
