Unit 4:  The 70s, 80s, and 90s—and a look ahead

Please follow this simple procedure when ordering books.

  1. Ready to shop? Click on the direct link we provide through resource cover icons below.
  2. When the resource appears in the frame Amazon.com website, immediately add it to your shopping cart. Now, read the reviews, look at suggested alternates, and browse to your heart's content.
  3. Satisfied with that resource? Close the Amazon.com frame. Now you're back on this page!
  4. Click on your next resource's cover. After adding it to your Amazon.com shopping cart, return to our links.
  5. Repeat this process until your order is complete for this unit.

This page may be used independently of the Tapestry guides (to explore costs or see what kinds of resources we recommend) but this page is primarily intended as a shopping tool, not a curriculum guide. Tapestry Reading Assignment Charts indicate which of these resources are more highly recommended by Marcia, and shoppers with the program in hand will have a clearer idea of which resources will best suit them.

If you have problems with any of these links, please contact Dana.

General Resources:  (spines used more than four weeks) that are used in this unit appear in this chart.

Additional Helpful Products:

Knowledgequest has three great products that work very well with Tapestry:  see them all by clicking here.

  • Blackline Maps of World History (buy in separate packs of paper maps or buy them all on one CD-ROM)
  • Easy Timeline Creator (your student can create beautiful time lines on the computer and print in color or black and white)
  • Time line figures (for those who prefer a paper-based approach, these are scalable and reproducible)

Our Student Activity Pages are designed to be copied.  Many home schoolers invest in a home copier or scanner in order to save trips to the copy store.  One of our Tapestry users purchased an all-in-one copier/scanner/fax/printer machine six months ago.  She writes: "It has worked perfectly and made school so much easier for me this year.  The blue pages copy wonderfully, without any adjustments necessary. Also I have received faxes, used the digital camera slot, made tons of copies, and scanned some pictures. I am still working with scanning text--I haven't figured that out yet completely. My machine also comes with software so pictures can be saved, cropped, printed, or emailed. It has been a breeze to set up and use, and the color - b/w printer yields high quality prints. (It prints well on card stock, too, unlike my old printer.) And when paper gets stuck in there it has a little panel that opens in the back to make it very easy to remove! I can't think of anything else to tell you but if anyone has specific questions, please feel free to ask me! (Can you tell I really have enjoyed this machine?)"  She wrote this in reference to an HP machine, but it has gone out of stock.  You can find others like it though: click on this link to begin browsing: Top Selling Electronics.  When you arrive at Amazon Electronics store, type "copier" into the available search box!

Here's a relatively new product that we just discovered: Crayola's Model Magic:

coverThis great, lightweight, soft modeling substance comes in four colors, or you can just buy buckets of white.  It air-dries quickly, and after it's dry, it can be sanded, painted, or decorated.  Kinesthetic learners can use this in place of clay to make models of all sorts, as well as jewelry, diorama furniture, puppets--the list is endless!  Model magic can replace FimoTM for most projects suggested in Tapestry.  If you buy your Model Magic from this link (click to place in your cart right away whenever you're ready to purchase) Tapestry will benefit from a small commission.  Thanks in advance!

Do you have a child's birthday party or a baby shower coming up?  Save yourself a trip to the store!  Browse here and let these fine online stores deliver items to your door, as you simultaneously benefit the development of our website!  Thanks in advance!
